Our teachers

Working musicians who are born teachers.

Lots of people play well. Far fewer can teach a nervous seven-year-old, a teenager who wants to shred and a fifty-year-old beginner, and make all three love it. Those are the people we look for.

The Stage Pass standard

Five gates before your first lesson.

Every teacher clears every one of these. No exceptions for impressive résumés.

  • A working musician and a proven teacherThey gig, record, direct or perform, and they can explain what they know to a seven-year-old and a fifty-year-old.
  • Auditioned by AlexEvery teacher plays for and talks with our founder before anything else happens.
  • An observed demo lessonWe watch them teach a real student before they teach yours. Playing well is not enough.
  • Background-checked and referencedCriminal background check and national sex-offender registry search, plus professional references, before a first lesson.
  • Held to our lesson standardA goal for every student, a practice plan after every lesson, and progress check-ins with parents.
What we look for

Playing is the entry ticket. Teaching is the job.

Real musicianship

Training (degrees, conservatories, or years of serious study) plus a life in music today: gigging, recording, directing, performing.

Patience and warmth

The ability to read a student, adjust in the moment, and make hard things feel possible. We see it in the demo lesson or we don't hire.

A plan for every student

Goals, structure and written practice plans, not just "play it again." Teachers who can explain the why, not only the how.

Our founding roster

Atlanta's teaching musicians, one at a time.

We're building our roster carefully, neighborhood by neighborhood and instrument by instrument. You won't scroll through profiles: we choose the teacher who fits your student, then introduce them with a short bio before the first lesson.

Questions

About our teachers.

Safety standards
Can I see my teacher's background before the first lesson?

Yes. When we introduce your teacher, you'll get a short bio covering their training, teaching experience and performance background. If the fit isn't right after the first lesson, we rematch you at no charge.

Are your teachers employees or contractors?

Our teachers are independent professionals who teach through Stage Pass. We handle matching, scheduling and billing, and we hold every teacher to the same written standard for lessons, communication and safety.

Can I request a specific type of teacher?

Of course. A teacher who reads classical repertoire, a gigging rock player, a worship musician, a jazz specialist, someone experienced with neurodivergent students, a teacher who speaks Spanish: tell us in the form.

What if my teacher moves on?

Musicians tour and life happens. If your teacher has to leave, we'll introduce a new teacher personally and share notes so you don't start over.

Ready when you are.

Tell us who's learning and what they want to play. A coordinator will call within one business day with a teacher in mind.
