Lesson policies

Fair to families. Fair to teachers.

Simple rules so everyone knows where they stand. Questions? Ask your coordinator any time.

Tuition & billing

  • Everything is paid in advance. Monthly memberships are charged on the 1st of each month by automatic payment (bank draft or card), equal to four lessons at your per-lesson rate. Your first month is prorated and charged when you enroll, before the first lesson.
  • Membership covers 48 lessons per year. There are no lessons during the week of July 4, Thanksgiving week, two weeks over Christmas and New Year's.
  • No registration fee and no long-term contract. To stop a membership, give us 30 days' notice.
  • Each additional student in the same household receives 10% off. One discount per lesson; discounts don't stack.
  • If a payment fails, we retry after 3 days. A $15 late fee applies after 7 days, and lessons pause after 14 days until the account is current.

Lesson packs

  • The 10-lesson pack saves 5% against the monthly rate and is good for 16 weeks; The 20-lesson Semester Pack saves 10% against the monthly rate and is good for 26 weeks. Packs are paid in full at purchase and never renew automatically.
  • Pack lessons can be used by any student in your household.
  • Unused lessons are refundable: the amount paid, minus lessons used at the monthly rate. Lessons left when a pack expires become account credit for 12 months, so nothing is forfeited.

First Lesson Guarantee

If your first lesson with a new teacher isn't a great fit, tell us within 48 hours. We'll match you with a different teacher at no charge, or refund everything you've paid. Your choice. Your teacher is still paid for their time; we cover it.

Cancellations, make-ups & no-shows

  • 24 hours' notice or more: you get a make-up lesson, scheduled with your teacher (memberships: up to 2 per semester, used within 60 days). In a pack, the lesson simply isn't used.
  • Sick at the last minute: switch that lesson to online up to 2 hours before instead of missing it.
  • Less than 24 hours' notice, or a no-show: the lesson is charged, and your teacher is paid, because they reserved that time for you. Teachers wait 15 minutes for in-home lessons and 10 minutes online before it counts as a no-show. Everyone gets one "life happens" pass per semester that turns a late cancellation into a make-up.
  • If your teacher cancels: you choose a make-up lesson, a qualified substitute, or a credit. Always.

In-home lessons

  • For any student under 18, a parent, guardian or trusted adult (18+) must be home for the entire lesson.
  • Please have a quiet space ready, the instrument tuned or accessible, and pets settled.
  • If a household member is sick, let your teacher know and switch the lesson to online.
  • Lessons are not moved to other addresses without arranging it with your coordinator first.

Weather & emergencies

If roads are unsafe (ice, severe storms), in-home and studio lessons move online or are rescheduled at no charge.

Changing teachers

You can ask for a different teacher at any time, for any reason, and we'll rematch you at no charge.

Gift lessons

Gift certificates are valid for at least five years from purchase and can be used for any instrument, setting or lesson length.

These policies may be updated; current students will be notified of any change at least 30 days before it takes effect.

Ready when you are.

Tell us who's learning and what they want to play. A coordinator will call within one business day with a teacher in mind.
