Safety standards

Inviting a teacher home takes trust.

Here's exactly what we do to earn it. These rules apply to every teacher and every lesson, and they are not optional.

Background checks

Before any lesson: identity verification, a criminal background check and a national sex-offender registry search, run by a professional screening company. Rechecked every year.

An adult at home

For any student under 18, a parent, guardian or trusted adult must be home for the entire in-home lesson. No exceptions.

References & interview

Professional references, a personal audition with our founder, and an observed demo lesson before a teacher joins.

A written code of conduct

Every teacher signs it. It covers lesson spaces, communication, physical contact and professional boundaries.

Our code of conduct, in short

  • Lessons in the home happen in a shared or open space (living room, den, dining room), with doors open.
  • Teachers communicate about scheduling and progress with parents, not privately with minor students. No private messaging or social media connections with students under 18.
  • Any physical guidance (adjusting a hand position or posture) is minimal, explained first, and only with the student's comfort.
  • Teachers arrive on time, professional and prepared, and never bring guests to a lesson.
  • Studio lessons for students under 16 require a parent or guardian on site or nearby, as arranged with the coordinator.
  • Online lessons for minors happen with a parent or guardian at home, and are never recorded without permission.

If something doesn't feel right

Tell us immediately, and you'll reach a person who acts on it the same day. Any concern about a teacher's conduct with a child goes straight to our founder, and the teacher is paused from all lessons while we look into it. If you believe a child is in danger, call 911 first.

Report a concern

Ready when you are.

Tell us who's learning and what they want to play. A coordinator will call within one business day with a teacher in mind.
