Intown has fewer kids per block than the suburbs and a lot of adults who played something once and want it back: the trumpet from high school band, the piano they quit at twelve, the guitar that has lived in a closet since college. In a Midtown condo or an Old Fourth Ward loft, a digital piano or an acoustic guitar fits fine, and an online lesson at lunch or a studio lesson after work fits a real work week.

Intown is also where Atlanta goes to hear music: Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center, the Fox Theatre on Peachtree, Variety Playhouse in Little Five Points. For now, intown lessons happen at a teacher's studio or online. We're adding in-home lessons one neighborhood at a time as we sign intown teachers, so request a teacher anyway and we'll tell you exactly what's available at your address.

Condos, lofts and shared walls

Voice, guitar, ukulele and a digital piano at headphone volume all work in a condo, online or when in-home lessons reach your neighborhood. For drums or a full-volume amp, a teacher's studio is the easy answer.

Midtown High, Howard and Jackson

Students at Midtown High School (formerly Grady), David T. Howard Middle School and Maynard H. Jackson High School (Atlanta Public Schools) can bring band, orchestra or chorus music to studio or online lessons, including GMEA audition prep.

Make something of your own

Want to write songs or make beats on a laptop? Songwriting and music production lessons work especially well online and at a teacher's studio, and your teacher can help you finish a first song, record a demo, or get a set ready for an open mic.

Do you offer in-home lessons intown yet?

We're opening them neighborhood by neighborhood as our intown roster grows. Studio and online lessons are available now. Request a teacher with your address, and a coordinator will reply within one business day to tell you exactly what's available.

I'm an adult beginner in a Midtown condo. What works best?

Start with what you want to play. Guitar, voice, ukulele and piano on a digital keyboard all work at condo volume. A good rhythm for a busy schedule is online lessons most weeks and a studio lesson every few weeks, with the same teacher. Nobody expects you to be good yet; that's what lessons are for.

Can my child take studio lessons if we live intown?

Yes. Kids and teens can take lessons at a teacher's studio or online. Students under 16 need a parent or guardian on site or nearby for studio lessons, and online lessons for minors happen with a parent or guardian at home.

Ready when you are.

Tell us who's learning and what they want to play. A coordinator will call within one business day with a teacher in mind.
