Decatur already sounds like a music town.
Lessons for Decatur kids, teens and adults at a teacher's studio or online today, with in-home lessons opening around town as we sign more teachers who live nearby.

Eddie's Attic on North McDonough Street has been part of Decatur since 1992, and past winners of its Open Mic Shootout include John Mayer and Shawn Mullins. Add the Decatur Arts Festival each May, and playing for people is a normal part of life here. Lessons that build toward that, and not just toward practicing alone, fit right in.
City Schools of Decatur students go to Beacon Hill Middle School and Decatur High School, while plenty of homes with a Decatur mailing address sit outside the city limits in unincorporated DeKalb, where North Decatur students may attend Druid Hills High School. Either way, your teacher can help with the music on your student's stand. Houses in Oakhurst, Winnona Park and the MAK Historic District sit close together, so a digital piano or a quiet practice setup is worth talking through at the first lesson.
Neighborhoods we cover
Your first open mic
Songwriting lessons can aim at a real night out: a finished song, a short set, and the nerve to play it. Your teacher can help you get ready for an open mic at Eddie's Attic or anywhere else with a stage and a sign-up sheet.
Decatur High and Beacon Hill
Band and orchestra students at Decatur High School and Beacon Hill Middle School (City Schools of Decatur), and at DeKalb schools like Druid Hills High School, can bring their ensemble music to studio or online lessons, including GMEA audition prep.

Why aren't in-home lessons available everywhere in Decatur yet?
Because we only send teachers who live close by. A teacher driving in from Sandy Springs at 5 p.m. would be late every week, so we're signing Decatur and intown teachers first and opening in-home lessons neighborhood by neighborhood as they join. Studio and online lessons are available now.
Our address says Decatur, but we're not in the city. Does that matter?
Not for lessons. Many Decatur mailing addresses are in unincorporated DeKalb County, and we teach students from City Schools of Decatur and DeKalb County schools alike. Send us your full address so we can match you with the closest teacher.
I've never played for anyone. Can songwriting lessons get me to an open mic?
Yes, at whatever pace suits you. Your teacher can help you finish songs, shape a short set and practice playing it for someone, starting with your teacher. Whether you ever sign up for an open mic is your call.
Ready when you are.
Tell us who's learning and what they want to play. A coordinator will call within one business day with a teacher in mind.
